چکیده :

Water shortage and drought stress occurs frequently during the growth and development of the plants. Studying the response and productivity of these plants under drought stress conditions is necessary to optimize their cropping techniques. The experiment was performed at research farm of Meshgin-Shahr Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mohaghegh Ardabili during 2020 growing season. Drought stress was imposed on biennial plants when they reached their reproductive phases. From flowering until seed maturity, well-watered plants were irrigated regularly to avoid wilting, while droughted plants were irrigated only when they showed symptoms of wilting. Seed weight, seed number and total plant weight were measured at the end of plant maturity. The results showed that seed weight and seed number were decreased by 18 and 32 percent by drought condition, albeit not significantly. Although total plant weight was decreased by 14 percent under drought condition, but this reduction was not statistically significant. Obtained results show that salvia officinalis can adapt to drought stress conditions and sustains its growth and productivity.
