چکیده :

Abstract Edible mushrooms are widely recognized for their nutritional value and health benefits. This review examines the effects of edible mushrooms on the immune system, focusing on both their positive and negative impacts. The active compounds in mushrooms, such as β-glucans, have been shown to modulate the immune response by activating macrophages and natural killer cells, enhancing the body’s defense mechanisms. Additionally, their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties contribute to the regulation of oxidative stress and inflammation, promoting overall immune health. Edible mushrooms also impact the gut microbiota, indirectly supporting immune function by increasing levels of short-chain fatty acids, which strengthen the immune barrier. However, some adverse effects, such as allergic reactions and the presence of mycotoxins in contaminated mushrooms, pose potential risks to health. The relationship between edible mushrooms and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has also been explored, with the potential for mushrooms to modulate gut microbiota and immune responses to alleviate ASD symptoms. Further clinical studies are needed to fully understand the therapeutic implications of edible mushrooms.
