چکیده :
Olive (Olea europaea L.) leaf is a promising reservoir of secondary metabolites, particularly polyphenols and flavonoids—well-known for their antioxidant and therapeutic properties. The alarming rise in fungal infections and the limited efficacy of existing antifungal drugs, intensified by increasing resistance, pose a serious threat to global health. These challenges have intensified interest in natural products, particularly those derived from medicinal plants, as safer and more sustainable therapeutic alternatives. Olive leaves, a commonly discarded by-product of the olive industry, are rich in polyphenolic compounds with documented antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties (Markhali et al., 2020; Borjan et al., 2020). This study presents a preliminary investigation into the antifungal efficacy of olive leaf extract, with the aim of assessing its potential for use against pathogenic fungi. Dried olive leaves were subjected to ethanolic extraction using 80% ethanol at room temperature, followed by phytochemical screening. The total phenolic content was determined using the Folin–Ciocalteu assay, confirming a high abundance of phenolic constituents (Borjan et al., 2020). Antifungal activity is being evaluated using the agar well diffusion method, targeting clinically relevant fungal strains such as Fusarium oxysporum and Aspergillus niger. Early observations suggest that the extract can inhibit fungal growth, as indicated by visible inhibition zones around the wells.
