چکیده :

Prostate cancer is currently the most common malignancy and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in men. Identifying genes involved in disease progression and utilizing targeted genetic therapies—particularly through treatment with medicinal plant compounds such as menthol in oil of peppermint—opens new horizons in gene therapy and the development of improved therapeutics. In this study, microarray data related to the therapeutic effect of 0.1% menthol (dissolved in ethanol) on prostate cancer were analyzed using PC-3 cell cultures treated in triplicate by GEO2R tool. Protein-protein interaction network analysis and functional pathway enrichment were performed using bioinformatics tools. The microarray data analysis revealed that menthol in oil of peppermint induces significant changes in the expression of genes related to inflammation, cell migration, and survival pathways. Key upregulated genes such as PTGS2, IL6, and SERPINE1—identified as hub genes linking inflammatory and invasive pathways—support the hypothesis that menthol may serve as an effective adjunct compound in the design of targeted therapies for prostate cancer. Additionally, the downregulation of IL1A and PTGS2, both associated with inflammatory responses, suggests a potential role in suppressing cell survival pathways, offering a promising method for the development of novel genetic therapies.
